Pantheon

A wide variety of gods have moved in and out of power over the many millennia since Sanctuary was formed. The most powerful gods are those whose statues sit on the Arcanum Crystals at the five kingdom capitals. This page describes those gods, their related divinities, and those gods currently worshiped by the Noble Houses. As noble houses come and go, this page will need to be updated.

	Acrab Acrab, is, a male Apollonian-Thoth like god of writing, magic, wisdom, music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, plague, and poetry. The scorpion king's form is unknown. This god is rarely if every seen, and he speaks through his prophets. Acrab is a generous if not warm deity. His blessings come in the form of fertility, luck, riches and intellectual enlightenment. His expectations are steep and while rarely seen, the weight of his displeasure will come if justified. Stories tell of a family who had broken hospitality and slew their guests, and were found later their bodies stung to death by deadly temple scorpions, only the children were spared.
	Brutus God of justice, judgement, and valor, an ascended ancient king of the Dúnadan who wandered the world as a questing knight-errant. It is said that Brutus nearly vanquished evil from the land of Sanctuary before passing and leaving the task to his followers. The name of Brutus passed into legend and was then forgotten for many years prior to heroes from another world arriving in Sanctuary within the Tomb of Brutus. Followers of the God King speak of the Eternal Glory, a realm of pure pride and honor where one is surrounded by both their ancestors and Knights who followed the way of the God King until death. While it is said any who live their life in accordance with the ways of Brutus may enter the Eternal Glory, the most direct way is to swear an oath within the Order of the Black Lion and uphold that oath until death.
	Cernunnos The great lord of the wilds goes by many names and epithets: Cernunnos, Lord Horn, our Horned Lord, but his story remains much the same. He is the guardian of the untamed forests and fields, but also of maintaining balance. With his mighty antlers, Cernunnos is a protector of the forest and master of the hunt. He is a god of vegetation and trees in his aspect as the Green Man, and a god of lust and fertility. To some of His followers, He is seen as a god of death and dying, and takes the time to comfort the dead by singing to them on their way to the spirit world. He breath stirs life into the birds, the beasts, the fields. His song soothes those at the end of their path. The heat of His blood stirs the passions of His loyal, and celebrations held in His honor are boisterous, revelrous affairs.
	Io, occasionally known as Asgorath or Asgoroth A neutral primordial over-deity, father to dragon gods and is worshipped across many a world by other names. An entity of seemingly conflicting motivations and alignments, known for doing either very little or a whole lot depending on the incarnation. Anyone who views dragons with awe or wishes to imitate them can turn to Io for guidance and strength. Although Dragons in their own right, Jormungandr and Ancalagon who form the world here are viewed by many of the Children to just be another pair of Primoridal children of Io.
	Queen Medb (Mab) "O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you. She is the fairies' midwife, and she comes... In shape no bigger than an agate-stone. Drawn with a team of little atomies, Athwart men's noses as they lies asleep..." --William Shakespeare Mab is typically thought of a benevolent, but extremely mischievous, midwife and trickster goddess of faerie. She helps to "deliver" humans of their innermost desperate desires, which come to fruition in the form of Dream. She typically appears in the form of something like a pixie. The fey folk are many and varied in their allegiances, but Mab is thought to be a figure that provides guidance, favorable luck, and happiness for fey folk who wish to perform tricks, minor glamours or blessings, or more vengeful pranks in her name.
	Northern Pantheon In a world much like that of earth, there came a young goddess by the name of Yrsa. She was born of two Vanir, Freyr (The Lord) and Freya (The Lady), the children of Njord, a northern sea god. Yrsa, a young godling, fond of the Alfar to whom she was their princess, and the Jotunn by whom she was secretly raised, came to hate the cruel treatment done to Tyr, the god of law, once the father of all. She was a very young girl when his hand was bitten off by Fenrir, chained by Odin, and she wept that the great beast was shackled and chained. She was only fourteen summers when she led those of the Alfar and the Jotunn east of the sun and west of the moon, far into northern frozen Helheim. Tyr, the lawful one, went with her, and when she, Yrsa, was trapped in Helheim by the goddess Hel, Tyr lead their people down into the lands of Valgard where they settled. Yrsa, still a child would grow into her power in the lands of Helheim, she would eventually trap and overpower Hel, binding the power of two death goddesses together. Her mother’s legacy gave the young godling the right to claim half of those fallen in battle. With the union forged in Helheim, Yrsa now a grown woman would truly become battle maiden and crone. Hel/Yrsa would take on their iconic image of half beautiful woman and half aging hag. 	Seshat Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, writing, and mathematics. It is said that in the earliest days of civilization, she invented writing and taught it to her followers, allowing the history and knowledge of all peoples to be recorded for eternity. Buried by history and overshadowed by gods like Thoth and Acrab, She who Scribes has come back into prominence recently as the guardian of knowledge. Fair, logical, and ever-curious, the Lady encourages her followers to seek out and record the world's knowledge for the betterment of all people. In the eyes of the Goddess and her followers, to discover new knowledge is the greatest gift, to protect it is the most noble calling, and to destroy it is the most grievous of sins.
